This is the first part of a tutorial explaining how to install and use Dart, which you can download from github.com. Dart is a programming language for modern apps that lets users build web and mobile apps with one codebase and share it across devices. The goal of this first post will be to explain how to install and use Dart on your computer, as well as the origin story of how the language came about. At Google we rely on a large number of independent software teams. And each team creates their own tools and languages for building apps, many of which are not open source, or are unstable or incomplete. At the same time, we want to foster an ecosystem that can build on top of our core products and services. For example, we want to encourage growth in external frameworks such as Dart, which lets developers build apps that can be shared across devices. So for years we’ve been looking for a way to support and maintain a clear and consistent language for web and mobile apps. Dart is the result: a modern language built from the ground up with mobile and web applications in mind. Dart was designed to feel very familiar, but also come with many improvements and handle the complexities of modern app development. Our goal is to build a language that’s very approachable and fun to use, while also being able to scale up to large apps with complex requirements. We want our users and developers to be inspired and excited by it - and we hope you will be too! This tutorial contains: A. Installing Dart on your computer B. Using Dart in your browser C. Using Dart in your Android app . D. Using Dart in your iOS app . E. Tips for getting started with Dart . The Dart compiler is written in Dart.
